Any ideas on how I can contact Paul O'Neil who was with the Ellesmere Port Gunners in the 70's. He's originally from New Zealand. I believe that I might be related to him and I am trying to find some leads to get connected.

I was a great fan and follower of the King's Lynn Stars in the golden era of the sport (late 70s early 80s) and have been racking my brains wondering what the entrance music was on the parade before the racing started when they used to walk to their bikes?

I am trying to find out about a rider possibly post war called Ernie Steers to assist a friend of mine. We think he may have been at Liverpool, Long Eaton maybe even at New Cross or for the spring cup final against West Ham. Or wherever? Have you any knowledge of him? Do you have a photo? Can you suggest any contacts? I would appreciate your help.

Geoff Maloney a.k.a "Captain Scarlet" was my first favourite ride having seen him ride at Rayleigh Weir in the early 70's. He featured in my recent Dream Team on this website. Does anyone know what came of him - if he's still with us and what he's up to these days...??

I went to the Ivan Mauger long track meeting in Christchurch with my vhs video camera and video taped the meeting along with the match race's with Ivan Mauger and Peter Collins. I also went there the following year when all the overseas riders were again there. I am after a copy of 'The Flying Kiwi' and also 'Circuits of Gold - The Ivan Mauger story'. If you can help then I will send my copies on DvD as a swap.

I am 36 but I can remember my grandfather being the biggest aces fan on the planet. He lived around the corner and drank in The Aces. I have inherited a signed Peter Collins painting which I treasure. I believe he was given it when the aces stripped all speedway stuff out of the vault. I can even remember the gold bike !

My granddad took me and my day to every home fixture and his hero was Ivan Mauger (gold bike) mine was Sam Ermolenko.

My dad worked for Manchester Garages which used to be near St Marys hospital. MG had a contract for removing the stockcars from the track during the intervals at Hyde road. I recall being the only 10 year old kid to be allowed in the pits in the breakdown truck it was great, happy days.

I remember when they were knocking down Hyde road we went for a look and got offered the Aces sign on the pit wall we declined (what a mistake looking back !!! )

Anyway I was wondering if you know anyone / or a website that might have old pictures of the glory days in the Aces pub (as it was like the modern day footballers players lounge) or have any old pictures of Belle Vue stock cars in the hope my grandfather / father and I are in any of the pictures ?

I have been a speedway fan since 1945 at Odsal Stadium Bradford and remember all the great riders through the years. I bought a book round about 1950 "Bluey Wilkinson World Champion" by John S Hoskins. Unfortunately it got lost in the mist of time and i wonder if any of your team, or readers can point me in the right direction to get another.

Ivan Blacka - Nottingham Outlaws - 1980
Ivan rode 15 meetings for the Outlaws in 1980 on loan from Wolverhampton. He is currently over in this country and I have had the great pleasure of talking to him about his Speedway career (which also involved Edinburgh Monarchs and, briefly Stoke Potters) as part of a project I am working on. He is desperate to find a photo with him either riding or in portrait with the Outlaws; he has coverage of his spells with the other teams. If the readership could turn up just one photograph, I am sure he would be absolutely "over the moon." There must be at least one photograph out there! Please e-mail me and I will arrange contact details.

There has recently been a request on the Newham History site about the Clarks and the Black Bull Pub in Plaistow which they owned, has anybody any updated news on them, thanks."

  • Graham Tattersall:

"Many thanks to this site in helping me obtain Dick Bott's speedway book no.6"

  • Tracey Whitmore:

"I would just like to leave a big thank you to Robert Rogers for the photos he emailed me of my Great Uncle Jimmy Gooch. I am currently putting together a scrap book for my father with as much info as I can of Jimmy. I would like to express my greatest thanks to both Robert and Speedway plus."

  • James Henry Chalkley:

"I have achieved the proverbial needle in the haystack through your column. Yes I found someone who was at West Ham the night Harry Eyer crashed in July 1953 and he filled me in with the true version of what happened that fateful night. He said he was standing right where the crash happened. He was 13 years old at the time and he had been supporting West Ham since 1940. I would like to say a special thank you to Speedway Plus for inserting my request in your website."

  • Jim Chalkley:

"Split Waterman told me that he designed the Winged Wheel trophy. He made it in his sheet metal workshop at Harringay Stadium. He would also like it returned to him. I wonder if Ivan Mauger would like to comment on this?"

  • Bill Elliot:

"Just to let you know that within 90 minutes of my pleas for missing Paisley programmes appearing in the "Can You Help" section, I got an email from Tracy Holmes in NZ offering me one of the "Gang of 8" - just in case anyone wonders about the power of "Can You Help?", I can vouch for it, big time!"
